The inspiration behind TOMS was sparked when during a trip to Argentina, founder Blake Mycoskie saw that the local children had no shoes to protect their feet.
From this he pioneered the 'One for One' concept. TOMS match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. The business was so successful in the first 5 years that Blake realized he could use the ‘One for One’ model to serve other global needs including avoidable blindness and visual impairment, safe water and safe birth. Not only was an amazing company created, but Blake’s unique approach to business sparked a global movement. He is passionate about inspiring young people to make a better tomorrow.
To date, TOMS has given over 60 million pairs of new shoes, restored sight to over 400,000 people, brought 335 weeks of safe water to those in need, and since 2015 have supported 25,000 mothers safely deliver babies through distribution of vital kits and training.
The ethos within TOMS is strong, integrating giving, responsibility and sustainable practices in everything they do. They operate in a manner which very much reflects their brand values.
